Manifestation. Spirit guides. Reincarnation. “Low vibration” sin. These ideas don’t just shape a spiritual aesthetic, they shape how we think reality works, who holds authority, and what we do when life hurts. I’m Danielle Venables, and this is part two of my New Age vs the Bible series, where I lay out the specific beliefs I used to live by and contrast them with what I now believe after giving my life to Jesus.

We dig into why the law of attraction and manifestation can feel so convincing, and why I’ve come to see them as an attempt to take the driver’s seat from God. I connect that to Scripture like James 4:13–15 and the daily practice of surrender: asking boldly, but still meaning “God, let Your will be done.” We also wrestle with the question people rarely ask out loud: if certain New Age practices are wrong, why do they sometimes “work”? That leads into discernment, spiritual warfare, and why the Bible repeatedly warns against practices like divination, mediumship, and channeling.

From there we talk about morality and truth. If sin is only an energetic imbalance, who gets to define good and evil? I contrast the “low vibration” framing with verses like Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23, then move into reincarnation and why Hebrews 9:27 challenged one of my deepest assumptions. We also unpack spirit guides and “higher beings,” and why I now believe some guidance that feels loving can still be spiritually deceptive. Finally, we close with Jesus: His love is real and relational, but it isn’t a blank check that affirms everything.

If you’re questioning New Age spirituality, exploring Christianity, or trying to understand the New Age to Jesus pipeline, listen through and then join the conversation. Subscribe, share this with a friend who’s curious, and leave a review so more people can find it.

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Counterculture Mama podcast. I'm your host, Danielle Venables, and today we are doing part two of the Lies of New Age. I I want to tread carefully with my wording here because I don't want to lose too many of you, so stick with me. But um basically I have 10 points of typical New Age doctrine, and I'm contrasting them with what I now know to be true since my conversion, since giving my life to Jesus. Um just about a year or it's a long story. But basically, around Easter of last year was when I started to feel the pullback, and I was resisting and resisting, and I would say it was probably summer of 2025 when I fully gave my life to Jesus. Um but throughout the past year, I've had to go through all of the different things that I believe to be true, all of the things that I thought about life and the world, and um I'm bringing some of those to you now of things that I wrestled with, things that I once believed, that I now don't believe, and kind of trying to just catch you up on like where that transformation happened or why it happened or how I see things now. So that if you're one of those people who is watching all of these new age to Jesus testimonies and wondering, like, why such a 180? Why do they have to denounce everything that they did before? Um, those if you have those kinds of questions like I did when I was watching other people go through it back in the days when I was saying I would never, um, you know, that's that's really what I'm trying to do is just to kind of bridge some of that gap and explain some of the the finer details or the things that caused a change of mind or a change of heart along the journey um to help catch you up with like I'm not crazy. You might still think I'm crazy, but it's fine. Um so we did the first one through five in the last video, so you can check that out if you haven't already, or you can start right here, whatever you feel drawn to. Um, but the next point is point number six, and that is manifestation or law of attraction creates reality. So thoughts and words create reality through universal laws. Um, you know, the the law of attraction, the law of assumption, those kinds of things. If you have watched The Secret, you know what I'm talking about. Um and this again puts us in the driver's seat. So in the last in the last video, I talked about how new age kind of elevates us into the seat of God, right? Into the role of God. And this kind of is a a sub point to that, right? How like we're co-creators in the universe and and our thoughts and our actions somehow impact our outcomes. And at the end of the day, I mean Isaiah 45, 5 through 7 says, I am the Lord, and there is no other. And James 4, 13 to 15 says you ought to say, if the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that. And so, um, the book of James, by the way, if you ever want like a hard slap in the face of just reality, um, the book of James is amazing, and it's actually written by Jesus' brother. Um, and it well, that that's up to debate depending on who you ask, but um, it is typically understood through scripture that it is written by James or that James is Jesus' brother, and it is just one conviction after another. It talks about the power of the tongue, it talks about um just overall, like just principles for life. It's an amazing, very short but very good book. Um, but anyway, if the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that. That basically means that we are not in the driver's seat. And when we do step into the driver's seat, or we try to be in the driver's seat to the point that we are manipulating outcomes, that's defying God's will. And obviously, God gives us a degree of free choice. Um, there's there's sort of a balance in the Bible between free choice and predestination, um, and that's a very interesting sort of theological debate and concept as well. But at the end of the day, um living in service to our Creator involves submitting to his will and trusting that what he has laid out for us is for our own good. It is coming from a place of love, the nos are from a place of protection, and anything that we try to do to take things into our own hands is manipulating outcomes. And trying to manipulate outcomes could arguably be um witchcraft or sorcery, which is obviously prohibited in the Bible. And it's prohibited in the Bible. I've come to learn again some of the deconstructing I had to do in order to um really understand why God says what he says in his word. Um but he does it for our protection, and in this case, the protection is that we're not convening with demons. And I talked in the last episode about uh the plagues in Exodus, so definitely circle back because that is relevant here as well. Um, but basically it's this question of like, well, if it's so bad, then why does it work? And the reason that it works is because demons and Satan actually have a degree of power on earth as well. Um Satan is actually like he he rules the earth for now. Um and so because of that, he has a degree of power. And so when we try to manipulate outcomes, what we're really doing on a spiritual level is we're making deals with the devil. And I I hesitate to to say it like that because I know I'm gonna get pushback, but at the same time, like if it's God's will, it can't miss you. Everything in your life is always going according to God's plan for you. And yes, there is a degree of free will in that, like I said, and that's a whole theological debate, but at the end of the day, like if it's God's will, it's gonna happen because the God of the universe is more powerful than any circumstance in your life, it's more powerful than any mistake you can make, it is more powerful than anything the devil can do in your life, or that another person can do to you in life. His plan will always triumph because he is the literal creator of the universe. So when we try to take things into our own hands, what we're doing is we're sinning, we're we're putting our wants above God's will. We're saying, I'm gonna make this happen, whether it is your will or not. And again, then he just steps back and says, you know what, fine. But it's not him that's fulfilling those selfish desires, it's not him that is like fulfilling um the things that don't honor him and that don't represent like his design or his will or his idea for your life. What he does is he steps back and he lets Satan step in and fulfill those desires. But if you make a deal with the devil, it comes with a cost. This is this is what selling your soul to the devil is. Not that that can like literally happen, um, but when you hear that term, like what you're doing is you're you're entering a trade-off agreement with an unholy spirit. And um when you when you do that, you're you're obviously not honoring God, you're not in line with his will for your life. Um so that's why like manifestation and things like that are not of God, and um it is an everyday practice to say, I would really like this, but God, let your will be done. I I humble myself before you, let your will be done in my life, as opposed to me trying to take control, trying to manifest, trying to, you know, conjure up the things that I want out of life. It's putting full faith in God's provision, in the fact that He loves you and He's going to take care of you and He's going to provide for you, which He always has for me in the craziest ways, especially when I left New Age. Um, and just being aware that when you're not in obedience to God's will, you're you're convening with other forces, other spiritual forces. So um instead of the New Age idea of manifestation, Christianity says God creates reality, not human intention. God allows affliction, God gifts you and blesses you with prosperity, with kids, with whatever it is that you are, you know, wanting or not wanting. He he does that and he provides that for you. And he doesn't force himself on you in that if you want to take those other paths and um, you know, use other means to get what you want on earth, like he will let you do that because you do have free will. Um, but at the same time, he is always seeking you and he is always looking for a way to bring you back to him, to bring you back, to to forgive you for that, to bring you back into relationship with him because he is a good and loving father. And that's that's why we have Jesus, because we kept messing up, we kept worshiping false gods, we kept, you know, making a mess of the world, and finally he's like, We need an everlasting covenant, where as soon as you say, Yes, I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, you are washed clean of your sins, just like that. And then you make another mistake and you, you know, keep doing your best every day, and sometimes your best isn't great, but you're still forgiven because you're covered by the blood of Jesus. Um on to number seven. Sin is just low vibration. Um, so instead of acknowledging an objective good and evil, sin isn't real. Um, it's simply being energetically out of alignment. Now, the problem with this is again, it denies the objective morality of the creator of the universe, right? Like it literally takes that and just like throws it to the wind and says, Okay, whatever I deem good is good, and whatever I deem bad is bad, and I am the god of my own universe, and that's all that matters. And um, Romans 3.23 says, All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. And Romans 6.23 says that the wages of sin is death. Um, so the Bible describe describes sin as a moral rebellion against God, not an energetic imbalance. Again, we are turning away, we are shutting the door on our creator and on our loving, fair, just, merciful creator. Um it's not it's not an issue with your chakras. It's not an issue with you having to do another kundalini kriya. It is literally um moral rebellion against the moral law that God created when he created us. And um, you know, we are disrespecting the fact that we, when we sin, like we're disrespecting, especially sins against our own body. So, like things like sexual immorality and things like that, we are actually um degrading the fact that God made us in his image, and so that's a big deal. Um, and it's not just an energy imbalance, and it's not empowering um to continue to sin. Um, number eight, reincarnation allows many chances. Um, so New Age typically the held belief is that souls repeatedly reincarnate until they reach enlightenment, and you carry karma from one lifetime to another. Um, you know, I was so deep into it, it was like I was looking into soul pods and how you know, if one person does something to you in one life, then the next lifetime, like you'll come and teach them a lesson, or you know, like that there's this like karmic weaving between lifetimes. And just to to show you, this is one this was one of the hardest things for me to wrestle with because I was like, Well, I was channeling past lives, like in the Akashic Records, I was literally channeling past lives, so of course reincarnation's a thing. Like, what are you talking about? Um, and I thought that maybe it was just like that was the assumption, and that um, you know, I mean, I used to believe that uh ascension into heaven was was in a state of enlightenment too. So I I believed a lot of wrong doctrines, but um yeah, I don't know what I thought. I don't know when I thought, like just that at some point you would like beat level earth and like go up to the next, like to the heavenly realms or something, right? Like to the next dimension. Um and that's just not what the Bible says. And um Hebrews 9.27 says it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment. Um, this directly contradicts the concept of endless lives. And what I want to say about that is if you think of it from the from the perspective of okay, if I was the devil, if I was the devil, and my only goal in life was to harm God, was to hurt him. And the way I'm gonna hurt him is by taking his children away from him. And if each one of us are his children, we're made in his image, right? Um, then if I can convince, like it's like, think about it from the sense of like, well, what lies could I tell or what beliefs could I spread that could cause God's children to have eternal separation from him, right? Because that's what hell is, it's eternal separation from God. So if I make them believe that they get multiple chances and they just get to keep trying and trying again and trying again until they eventually ascend to be with God, basically, then um you know, they'll die once and then they'll be forever separated from him because they didn't, they didn't give their lives to him in the one life that they had. And so that's something that you really need to look at because there's a lot in New Age that feels so affirming, it feels so tolerant, it feels so enlightened because it's like, you know, believe what you want and do what you want, and we're all one big happy family, blah blah blah. But like at the end of the day, and like you you contrast that right with with Christians that say like Jesus is the only way, and I touched that in the first part of this video series. Um, so go back and watch that if you if you want to, but um, you know, you compare that to Christians who are like Jesus is the only way, and it looks intolerant and it looks like self-righteous and it looks holier than thou. But at the end of the day, if there is truly only one path to God, then um who's really who's really the loving one? Is it the person who's affirming you to hell, or is it the person who is bringing you to the source of eternal life? And so that's something that I really had to sit with too, because again, I used to think the same thing about Christians. Um, but it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment. So just keep that in the back of your mind. You may not get another chance. And so if you don't, where do you want to be? Um, and that's again, that's that's not meant to be like a fear tactic. That's just like something to sit with and reflect on and and kind of like open up to a little bit. Um, point number nine: spiritual guides and higher beings help us. Um so spirit guides, ascended masters, or ancestors provide guidance. There are so many videos on YouTube of people saying, like, you know, Jesus exposed my guides, um guides, spirit guides are actually demons, like those kinds of things. You can find those videos. And I I haven't watched them, but I would say probably go watch them if you're if you're doing the spirit guide thing. Um the biblical response to this one is in 1 Timothy 4 1, it says some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits. Um so again, if you understand the concept that there's God the Father, Jesus the Son, and then there's the Holy Spirit, that implies that anything outside of that Trinity becomes an unholy spirit by default, right? Like there's Holy Spirit and there's everything else. So the false gods, the spirit guides, the um, you know, all of these other things, um, they're deceitful spirits. Again, coming back to um the passage of no wonder Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, right? You're being deceived. And they come across loving, they come across helpful, um, but really what they're doing is they're slowly taking you away from God. Leviticus 1931 says, do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists. Again, this isn't because some man decided to write some book so that you couldn't reach spiritual enlightenment. Like that's not what this is about. God inspired the Bible, he inspired scripture, and the reason that these themes are all throughout scripture and they warn us of these things is because God knows how deceitful and how convincing of an imitator Satan can be. Again, he I said this in the first video, but he will come up with an imitation of the truth that is so close to the truth that it seems reasonable, but it's not the whole truth. And so that's why it's important to know scripture, it's important to know God, it's important to not engage in the things that give Satan a foothold in your life, such as mediumship, divination, uh, channeling spirit guides, witchcraft, those kinds of things, because those are all making agreements with unholy spirits. And if you have questions about that, by the way, like I'm not gonna be offended if you challenge me on those things. Um, so you can leave a comment down below and I can record like follow-up videos on exactly what I mean by that, or like answering specific questions of that, because that's such a big topic, and like I'm kind of like giving you the overview of it, but it helps me when you ask like specific questions about it, because then I can I can dig for those answers, right? Um, last one, Jesus taught love, not judgment. Um in the new age, you know, there's this belief, and even in the world, even if it's not new age, like just the world in general, um, uses Jesus as like, oh, he would affirm every belief because love equals acceptance. Um and quite frankly, like if you actually read the gospels, that is not true. Um, Jesus does not affirm sin. He does not affirm um, like yes, he sits with sinners, and there's we need to really emphasize this because yes, Jesus is, he sits with sinners. He does not condemn, he does not come and shame and judge, and you know, like he sits with people and he develops relationships with them, and then he shows them the truth, he shows them the way that they should be living in God's image, and then he says, go and sin no more. So his approach is not to affirm everybody to hell. Again, I already kind of said that, but like it's not to affirm everybody to hell, it's to correct, but the way that he does it is loving. But we can't mistake that for being love, just equals automatic acceptance. It's just a blank check to accept everyone and everything and every sin and just love it all, right? We are not called to love sin. We are actually called to hate sin. We're called to love the sinner, but hate the sin. And that means calling things out, that means saying hard truths. Um, so Matthew 7, 13 through 14, it says the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life. Um John 3, 18 says, Whoever does not believe stands condemned already. So Jesus spoke more about judgment and hell than anybody else in the Bible. And that's really important to grasp because he came to spread the word of God. He came to spread the truth. And the truth is not affirming every lie. The truth is the truth. It is the objective truth that the creator of the universe, God, defined. And that's it. His moral law, his expectations for us, his rules and boundaries, which again are designed to love us and to protect us because there are spiritual forces at work. There is deception out there, right? Um, so he didn't come to affirm all of that stuff. And so if you believe in a Jesus who's just a blank, blank check of like, oh yeah, like go ahead and do whatever, um, that's not that's not the Jesus of the Bible. That's not the Son of God. That is a false teaching, false Jesus that has been um used as a mascot to validate new age ideas or to validate even um woke progressive ideals. Um, you know, like and I'm not I'm not saying it's only like progressive um people that use Jesus as as a mascot, but you could use Jesus as a mascot for just about anything. You could um use him, yeah, you could use him for literally anything. So I'm not gonna get into that. That's that would be for another episode, but um just be very aware of anywhere that makes claims about Jesus that are not um backed by the scriptures written by the people who actually like walked with him or you know who directly heard those stories from the people who walked with him. Um, because that's the only reputable source of information. Like you again, if you keep in mind that when you channel, you're not actually. Channeling Jesus, you're channeling something that's disguising itself as Jesus or presenting itself to you and deceiving you. Channeled works do not represent Jesus Christ. And um yeah, that's just that's just plain fact. So anyway, I hope that this episode was helpful. I hope that you took something away from it. It planted one little seed for you to just kind of sit and pick away at. Again, like if you have any pushback or you have any questions about any of that, like feel free to drop a comment down below. I will either respond to your comment or I'll record a whole other video answering your questions. Um, I do best in two-way dialogues. So, like if you have things where it's like, yeah, but um drop them. Like, this is this is a space as long as we are all like respectful and kind to one another, like this is a space where I'm happy to have those conversations and it actually helps fuel me and dig deeper and share even more of what I've learned, what I've been convicted of, what the Bible says, um, maybe some of the false teachings out there, because there are a lot of false teachings both within Christianity and obviously outside of it. Um, so I'm happy to continue this dialogue and to keep that um going and keep sharing um as we go. So I hope this was helpful, and I will see you in the next episode.
